Do Alaskan citizens still get dividends from revenue the state makes from oil?

  • I remember reading something about this a long time ago. Could this be why Palin and many other Alaskans want to expand oil drilling? i.e. more money for them.

  • And she has lent support to the AIP, an organization that wants Alaska to secede from the Union. BTW, the AIP's founder blew himself while building a bomb. Who's a terror sympathizer now?? TFTP. Report Abuse

  • yes. they get $2,000.00 a year. plus extra bonuses when the money really comes in. (They got an extra 1,200.00 last year).

  • YEP.
Sarah Palin had a budget surplus to deal with in Wasilla *(village of 5000) and a budget surplus in the state government, but she still took millions and millions in earmarks (including Bridge to Nowhere), even though the state is rolling in money and has fewer than 500,000 citizens.
Last year they got an extra bonus of $1200 each, making our $300 or $600 rebates look like nothing.

  • Yes, Alaskans all receive distributions from the Alaska Permanent Investment Fund. The dividends vary from year to year, from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, depending upon how well the fund does. More drilling would theoretically mean more dividends, as does a higher price for a barrel of crude.
